The “Mosquito Repellent Plant Gardens” are growing and blooming but the rabbits love the marigolds. Stop by and enjoy the flowers and help chase those pesky rabbits away. While there, pick up a brochure and plant some mosquito repellent specimens in your yard.

Outreach this month includes a presentation to the Holland Point Civic Association. They are interested in expanding their use of the MGO cages on a number of new piers. August brings a church group from Fairfax Virginia for a full morning field trip. If you have a group that would like to learn more about the “Treasures of a Tidal Marsh” please contact John Bacon and set up a date.

Members of the SMART Board program “Treasures of a Tidal Marsh" team had a very positive meeting with the K-12 environment and science administrator of the Calvert County School system.  Our program once completed will be available as a resource for the various environmental education units in all grades. We will make the program available on the web to educators and others throughout the county, state and country. There will be 3 elements to the program. 1 is an overview of each module, 2 is a Power Point of each module for groups and schools who do not have SMART Boards and 3 is the complete interactive SMART Board program. The modules include TIDES, BENEFITS OF A MARSH, AQUATIC LIFE, OYSTERS, PLANTS AND GRASSES, ANIMALS, BIRDS, INSECTS, and REPTILES.  Help us find people knowledgeable on any of these subjects who can contribute.

The "Oysterquarium" has a new feature. There is a special section which is used to grow larvae into spat. Come and view this exciting progress.

SAVE THE DATE. Oyster transfer from Fishing Creek to the Old Rock Reef is scheduled for August 22 from 12-3PM at Abner’s boat yard. Come and participate in this annual event.
