2024 Town of Chesapeake Beach Election preparations: The Town of Chesapeake Beach Board of Elections is preparing for the 2024 Town election. Maryland primary election: it is essential for residents to be informed about important voting information. The primary election will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, and it is crucial for all eligible voters to exercise their right to vote. Help Keep State Streets Clean: Customers can help by reporting litter on state roads by clicking here or they may call (410) 545-0300. The Town Council Celebrates Water Safety Month:

by approving a Swim Lesson program in coordination with the Board of County Commissioners at no additional cost to Town residents who enroll!

Swim Safety

Just in Time for Water Safety Month, the Town Council approves Town Sponsored Swim lessons at no additional cost to Town residents. Thank you to the Town residents who submitted the swim lesson interest form. Town staff will be contacting you to help you enroll your children in the program. Offerings to include: 

  • Tadpoles (ages 3 to 5) - Water exploration – children learn basics of swimming: bobbing, flutter kicks, front/back float, blowing bubbles, etc.
  • Jelly Fish (ages 5 to 7) - Swimmers will enhance their skills and develop new techniques: alternating arms, front/back glide, arms & legs together, submerging face.
  • Sting Rays (ages 7 to 10) - Swimmers enhance their skills and develop new techniques: rhythmic breathing, front/back crawl, treading water, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly, sidestroke.

Shatter the Stigma 5K and the “Be Kind to Your Mind” Health Fair May 18th at the Kellam's complex a partnership between the Calvert County Health Department, the Town of Chesapeake Beach, and the Twin Beaches Opioid Abuse Awareness Coalition. The event will kick start with a 5K, and the day will be filled with health screenings and activities focused on health and wellness at the center of the Town. Register today for the 5K and mark your calendars for this event offering family fun, access to health care resources, vendors, and more! 

Pocket Parks

Join the Mayor and Town Council for the ribbon cutting of 'Shisler Park' & 'Favret Way'. The Mayor and Town will officially cut the ribbon of "Shisler Park" and "Favret Way" located on the Bayfront at 29th street just after 5 PM in partnership with Baia Coastal Kitchen and Wine Bar. Come by to celebrate community gathering and new Town amenities positioned to view the Chesapeake Bay. Stay tuned for fun activities to come to recognize the "Buc's Corner" access point on the northern side of Kellam's field and the "Old Campgrounds Park" located on the B street waterfront overlook. 

Stars and Stripes

Join us for the George W. Owings, III Stars and Stripes Festival May 25th starting at 10 AM with a ceremony at the Chesapeake Beach Veterans Memorial Park followed by the Town's Family Fun Day at Kellam's Field. This year, the Town of Chesapeake Beach is proud to host a Patriotic Parade on May 25th, at 12:00 pm, starting at Kellam's Field! Show off our Nation's colors through colorful floats, wagons, marching bands, community groups, and more to showcase our American pride. We invite you to come dressed in your best Red, White, and Blue attire in honor and respect for our Fallen Heroes. Families, community groups, and residents of all ages are welcome to participate, observe, and enjoy a fun-filled day celebrating our Fallen Heroes and the freedoms we enjoy everyday as a result of their sacrifice. Register for the parade by May 17th. Detailed information about requirements, parade route, and participation guidelines will be provided to all registrants.

CBOCS

The World is Your Oyster, but don't forget to share the shells with the Chesapeake Beach Oyster Cultivation Society (CBOCS). The shells are needed for spat so to clean the Bay. DID YOU KNOW......A single adult oyster can filter up to FIFTY gallons of water in ONE day!! ((That's about as much water as we use in a 10-minute Shower!!)) To find out more interesting facts about oysters, click here! Shells can be placed in the large blue bins on the western side of Town Hall, the back of the building. CBOC'S will transform them into many new oysters and put them to work for our waterways.

Youth Mentoring

Calvert County Parks & Recreation is hosting three open house events throughout the county to promote this fall’s Youth Mentoring Program. Parents, potential mentees and mentors will have the chance to meet the program staff and speakers and learn more details about the program.

  • Northeast Community Center - May 21 @ 6-8 p.m.
  • Mt. Hope Community Center - May 22 @ 6-8 p.m.
  • Southern Community Center - May 23 @ 6-8 p.m.

Join a FREE night of fun offered through a collaboration between #CCPR Therapeutic Recreation Services and the Calvert Marine Museum on Friday, May 17 from 5-7 p.m. The Calvert Marine Museum and its grounds will be open exclusively for guests with disabilities and their families, friends or caregivers. Enjoy the skates and rays, fish, fossils, and maritime history. Let's have fun in a relaxed and supportive environment! Shop in the museum store, learn about river otters and board the Wm. B. Tennison for a 30-minute cruise. Each cruise will leave promptly at its scheduled departure time so participants are encouraged to go directly to the lighthouse to prepare to board.

REGISTRATION INFO:

Preregistration for each individual is encouraged but not required for museum access. Individuals must complete separate preregistration for each of the Wm. B. Tennison cruises. Cruises will be offered at:

5-5:30 p.m.

5:45-6:15 p.m.

6:30-7 p.m.

Meet #CCPR at the Dunkirk District Park Skate Park for a "Wheelie" good time at our Remote Control Ramps and Races Soiree on Thursday, May 23 from 5-6 p.m. Children ages 7-15 years are invited to bring their favorite remote-controlled car to race and roll on and off the ramps. Rubber-soled, closed-toe shoes are required due to potential slippery ramps. Preregistration is required. MD Commerce Training Grant – Partnership for Workforce Quality (PWQ) provides 50% reimbursement, up to $100,000 for small and mid-sized manufacturing and technology companies. The Veterans Affairs Commission wants to share up-to-date news with Calvert County veterans! Sign up for the email at www.calvertcountymd.gov/vac to get news about veteran support services, job fairs and other programs directly from your inbox. Spread the word to all Calvert County veterans by liking and sharing this information!

The Calvert County Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Division, will host free paper shredding events for county residents and businesses. Shredding documents helps prevent identity theft by destroying confidential and/or sensitive information.

The following shred events will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Huntingtown High School located at 4125 Solomons Island Road in Huntingtown

• Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Appeal Landfill located at 401 Sweetwater Road in Lusby

Proof of Calvert County residency or business location is required. Paperclips and staples are acceptable. Binders and binder clips are not acceptable. Businesses are allowed up to five banker boxes of paper per business (or the equivalent volume of five banker boxes in alternate containers). There is no limit for residents. Certificates of destruction will be provided if requested. Shredding events are held monthly.
